1 - Limericks

Section 1 – Reading Comprehension
a) Simple Past - there was; named; grew; was bade; slipped; fell

b) A lady who was extremely thin.

c) bid (v to inf): (used especially in newspapers) to try to do, get or achieve sth
Syn: attempt

d) The girl was so thin that she fell through the straw in the lemonade.

e) Suggestion:
Once, there was a girl
Whose name was Lynn
And she was so slim / skinny
That when she attempted / tried / wanted / felt like
To sip / drink / drinking lemon juice / lemonade
She fell through the straw in the glass / mug / paper cup, etc.


Section 2 – Editing

There was a young woman named Bright
Whose speed was much faster than light.
She set out one day
In a relative way,
And returned on the previous night.

Section 3 – Vocabulary Activator

a) I jumped out of bed in the dead of night and went downstairs.

b) Her voice awoke the sleeping child.

c) Winning the medal was like a dream come true.

d) You gave me a fright jumping out at me like that.

Section 4 – Paraphrasing

He / It was a Peruvian guy/man
He went to sleep and he dreamed he had his shoe in his mouth/ He fell
asleep and dreamed he was having his shoe,
He woke up / he jumped out of bed frightened / scared/ afraid, in the middle of
the night/late at night/ at dawn.
And discovered his dream was real / became reality/ really happened
